Hone Your Dating Skills - 4 Tips For The First Date

For a lot of singles, first dates are times of great stress. When a person hasn't been dating for a long time it is particularly stressful.

Not knowing what to talk about with a near stranger you know hardly anything about can fill you with apprehension. Concerns about a disastrous date can also be a source of tension.

A great stress reliever is knowledge about what is expected of you on a first date. Some tips for your first date:

1.) Taking her to a movie is probably not the best idea. Why is this? Because it's impossible to find out what sort of person she is if you're sitting in a dark room and can't do any talking.

Another reason: it's boring. It's a cliche, everyone does this.

Dates centered around an activity allow you to focus on the activity as well as each other. You could go to a concert, an amusement park, a simple walk along the beach, or playing some miniature golf. For a great outing you should find out what she likes to do.

Getting a bite to eat is a good plan when you're through with the activity. Avoid going to an expensive restaurant since it will seem as if you desperately need to impress her.

2.) Before the date, put some thought into your conversation topics and where it should lead. Don't give the impression of being dull because of too many silent gaps in the conversation. Engage in small talk about something on her person or of something amusing or interesting about your surroundings.

You can change the conversation over to getting to know one another after she's relaxed. Learn about the points that you have in common by asking open ended questions and listening very carefully.

Give and take is necessary for a good conversation. If you ask too many questions then your date becomes an interrogation session. If you do all of the talking then you learn nothing about her and she gets turned off.

3.) Attractive and clean clothing are a must. Your date will be an uphill struggle if you make a bad first impression. Naturally, what you wear is determined by the nature of your date.

It's a sure thing that a woman will take notice of your shoes, so leave the dirty sneakers at home.

4.) Please bear with me on this suggestion but there are some who need to be reminded: personal hygiene is important. A shower or bath, shave, deodorant, cleaned teeth, and mouthwash are the basics. Don't allow time pressure or nervousness make you overlook this.

Remember that excessive nervousness is a turn off because it makes you appear as lacking in confidence. Being relaxed will make your date comfortable and thus make it easier to connect with her. Don't pressure yourself by placing big expectations on the date's outcome. You're out with an interesting person, so have fun. - 20763
