Jack Russell Training for Rescue Dogs

.

A lot of canine professionals advise that jack russell training should begin at a young age since it is believed that puppies are more receptive to training compared to adult ones. Additionally, young puppies have not yet developed undesirable habits that are hard to break thus make training easier. But that's not the case all the time. In contrast to the popular belief, grown dogs, even those from rescue centers, can be easy to train as well... easier to train than puppies at times.

Before the training begins, or before you decide to rescue a dog for that matter, it would be best if you assess the potential one first. Though not all dogs in rescue centers are problematic, it is necessary that you're sure that that particular breed is right for you. Be aware that an energetic breed like the jack russell terrier requires more exercise than breeds such as dachshund and bichon frise so if you feel like you can't provide the daily exercise requirement, better consider other breed of dogs.

Jack russell training should begin the moment your new pet arrives home. During his first few days at home, it helps to concentrate more on socialization and building trust. Introduce him to other pets and animals, things and people but don't forget to do so in a gradual manner. The whole abandonment-adoption process can be overwhelming to some dogs hence he must be given time to learn and settle to the new environment you brought him into. One way to to help him adjust instantly is to make every encounter rewarding and enjoyable. Reward him with a tasty treat every time he's introduced to people, animals and so on.

While you're working to earn your pet's trust as well as the pack leader status, begin working on the basic obedience. If your new pet is already trained by the previous owner, all that is needed is polishing. Your pet should learn jack russell training commands like sit, down, come and stay for they're helpful in keeping him safe and controlled during various situations. Moreover, these commands also serve as foundation of various dog tricks such as shake, crawl and roll over and also other advanced lessons you would like your dog to learn later on.

Many dog owners are enjoying their dogs from rescue centers but there are still a lot of homeless dogs needing someone to rescue them and give them the life they deserve. By providing what your new pet needs - top quality food, grooming, exercise and jack russell training - no doubt you won't regret rescuing a jack russell terrier.
