Getting The Cabin Summer Ready

Summer vacation...one of the most awaited time of the year. Families go out of town or go overseas to take advantage of the school break and the unforgiving heat, and spend a leisurely time taking in the sights and relaxing. A popular summer get-away for many families that kids absolutely love is the cabin vacation. It's like going on a school camp, only with better food, more unstructured activities and a longer retreat.

A clean place to stay in is crucial for a comfortable and healthy summer time. Remember that summer is pestered by dust more than the usual because of the heat, so making your cabin as clean as possible is important. You don't want to add insult to the already warm temperature. So, get those broom, mop, rags and other cleaning paraphernalia out and scrub away!

Most cabins are made out of logs and are usually pretty light colored on the inside walls if they are left natural. You may want to add color in greens or reds or even blues as those are great colors for the woodsy lake cabin. If you live with a hunter you may have some kind of mounted animal head hanging in the cabin. It could be over the fireplace mantle which is a great place for it to be hanging.

Consider the colors in the cabin. Does the place look too plain or too worn-out? Spice up the interiors by adding some new colors, such as the season's colors - yellows, reds, blues and greens. You don't have to repaint the walls if you want to maintain the old-fashioned look of neutral-colored walls. You can just accent one wall or paint just one room in the cabin for a brand new appearance, specifically the kitchen or the family room.

Rugs made out of indoor/outdoor material, for the main room of the cabin, is probably best. For the other rooms, softer or maybe even a fur throw rug would be a good idea for decorating. Add area rugs to every room in the cabin. Rugs will soften the rustic look of the cabin and make it feel more inviting and comfortable.

Checkered curtains in red or blue over the kitchen windows and in the eating area will also had a little woodsy country touch. Or if you aren't in to checks, blue curtains with little white flowers or red with little white flowers would be a good fresh look as well.

Don't overlook your outdoor spaces when decorating your cabin. Add hanging baskets full of beautiful flowers on the porch. If you have a porch swing changing cushions out to some new colors for the summer will add your color. Wicker furniture for the porch will give it a nice summer look as well and you can always match your colors between the swing and the wicker furniture.

Make your cabin nice and airy and summery for your vacation. Remember if you use your cabin off and on all year round, changing the colors to match your seasons is a great way to keep things exciting. - 20763
