Best Grout Cleaner

.

By Sam Weyland

I like showing off my culinary expertise in the kitchen. Food is very intimate to humans, and I believe that the ability to cook is a gateway to a person's soul. I then make it a point that when friends stay over for a visit, I have them on the kitchen table, chatting whilst I prepare food.

What impresses them aside from my cooking skills (most of which are in-born talent) is the stark cleanliness of my kitchen. Particularly the kitchen counter itself. It's white and tiled, and my friends wonder how I manage to keep even the hard to reach areas clean. I've never told, but I'll tell you now.

I don't clean my grout at all.

Actually, I'm just a very practical person. Do the things you are really good at, and if possible, avoid the things you can't do. I am fully aware of the fact that I'm no good at cleaning up the tiles. Grout is a step harder. Take my word for it, I've been there.

And this is in no way my fault. Grout is a very porous solution, and as such all manner of clogs and dirt sweep through it on an everyday basis. And when you clean, your scrubbing can only reach the surface. In addition, the dirt below what you can reach remains visible even when unreachable, and it will breed bacteria on top of that. So nope, you won't find me doing what is not within my capacity to do.

So what do I really do? One, I maintain my grout. Prevention is better than the cure. Immediately after preparing food in the kitchen, I clean up the area, preventing the food particles from settling into the grout. On top of that, I spray alcohol mixed with water on the surface of my tiles and grout, after my family has turned in for the night. This solution disinfects and cleans, before the dirt and mold seeps into the material.

And even with all these safety measures, you can't keep the grout thoroughly clean like this. All this will accomplish is delay what'll happen eventually. The solution: When the times comes and you notice it getting really dirty, call in the professionals for a more deep cleaning. - 20763
