Home Decor Geometrical Style

By Owen Bruce

Shapes, lines and geometry are part of the foundations of basic design. While most other people will start creating a design for their home from a color scheme, lines and shapes make for an equally effective and interesting starting point. They call about as much attention as a new color and work better with other elements. So let go of that paint can for now, take out your ruler and start redecorating.

If you can choose proper furniture structure and lines you'll sometimes be able to make a smaller space seem as if it is much larger. Paint can change this look a bit as well but not as much as the flow of furniture.

As you know there isn't a house which is perfect in each rooms shape. One always sticks out as a unique shape and you may not know exactly what to make this room out to be. By using the geometric design techniques you'll be able to use in this space to make it your own personal style after looking past the flaws of the room and the way which you'll be able to correct it.

In many family rooms this is where your guests will follow and they are which you'll mostly entertain in. You want to picture the space and imagine what you want to do with the area. You want to make sure you have enough seating areas along with tables for everyone whom enters. You want to create the imagination in a smaller room as if it is actually bigger and more spacious. Of course in a smaller area you won't be able to fit enough seating for an entertaining area so you want to keep that in mind.

After you've gotten the room's purpose straight, it's time to check the geometry that will work best with your space. Lines, for example, tend to draw your eye from one end to the other. It's effective for making one dimension seem longer, such as with continuous lines running the length of a room. Meanwhile, you could also shorten the room by breaking up any continuous lines, such as by clumping furniture into squares.

You may sometimes see curved furniture and wonder if you're able to use them in your type of space. Curved items are usually able to be used in any type of room's space but make sure you aren't carrying them out too much in the design. You can break up the curved effect with a few straight lines such as with the coffee tables and end tables.

Rugs are another way to break up the geometrical design style. You'll be able to find one area rug which will best fit your life style and the design which you'll enjoy. Always remember that furniture will always set the rooms tone and design. You want to make sure everything flows together and it still shows your creativity and your personality. - 20763
