Simply put, hotel classifications are not a unified system. Many big chains, from budget options to luxury hotels, are allowed to apply their own classification systems based on the size and facilities of each of their establishments. They are not monitored by anyone except their own internal managers. And to make things more confusing, even chains change their "star criteria" from country to country!

As there are variations worldwide in the quality, size and design of different hotels the classification systems vary from nation to nation. This often means that what one would expect from, say, a three-star hotel in one country may be very much under-achieved by a similarly-rated hotel in another. Five-star hotels, for example, are expected to have the very finest of every facility made available, from restaurants to spas and other amenities, a high ratio of staff to guest and a superior location. A number of bodies rate accommodation providers, including the AA, the RAC, the tourist boards of various nations and, of course, independent travel guides such as Michelin, Gault Millau and Mobil. But, we've all had experience of disagreeing with what we've read or even basing our choices on reviews which are dangerously out of date.

The two paths left to the discerning traveller on the hunt for the truth are as follows. The first is to cross-reference every piece of literature you can find on the subject of each hotel, comparing the reputation of the brand (if applicable) with the designations for their rating and coming up with a fair picture of what kind of quality you are to expect. Ukulele Chords: Playing A Minor

In the series so far, we've looked at three chords: C, F and G. All these chords are major chords. You can spice up your playing considerably by adding into that minor chords.

In this and the next in the series, we'll be looking at a couple of minor chords that fit well with the chords and often crop up in songs.

Explaining Minor Chords

You'll be familiar with minor chords as being the 'sad' sounding chords in songs. This contrasts strongly with the major chords we have looked at with their 'happy' sound.

The only change between this happy and sad sound is in the third of the chord.

In a major chord, the third is four frets higher than the root note. So in an F major chord you have the F note and the A note (which is four frets higher than F).

In a minor chord, the third note is one fret lower (i.e. three frets above the root note). That means that in the case of A minor the root is A so the minor third is the note of C.

Fretting the A Minor Chord

The A minor chord is much simpler to play than many of the chords we've looked at since it can be played with just one finger.

When you're playing A minor leave the C, E and A strings all unfretted. Just use your middle finger to play the G string at the second fret.

With the A minor chord it is important that the underside of your ring finger doesn't touch the C string and stop it playing. The C note is very important in the chord - without it the chord would not have its minor flavor. So play that string individually to make sure that it is ringing out clearly.

It's known as the Bait and Switch game of marketing. We'd like to share a different, more positive game, called the Subconscious Bait and Switch! Here's how it works.

You "BAIT" those hidden memories, thoughts, and feelings - at a time when you are not going through an emotional experience - when you can evaluate them objectively and dispassionately - like following some meditation time at Headquarters, or during a journaling time. You "Bait" your subconscious by using key phrases that are incomplete, allowing your subconscious to fill in the blank.

For example, in your own mind, complete these sentences:

"I am just no good at " (singing; marketing; managing money; meeting people..) "I would be so much better off, if it weren't for" (parents; my boss; some past event) "The one thing I fear most is" (failure; looking silly; being taken advantage of; being alone; health problems.) "When I look in the mirror" (OK - no examples necessary!)

You get the idea Your subconscious immediately fills in the blank. This is your cue to pull the "Switch!"

You "Baited" the error thought to come to the surface, but instead of nurturing that belief, and supporting it with your thoughts, words, and actions, you begin the process of Truth Transformation! You write your thoughts down, and then set the intention to replace that false belief with a more empowering Truth about who you are.

For example, let's use a non-threatening, low-risk one: "I'm just no good at singing!" Let's evaluate that thought for Truth. Who says that? Who am I comparing myself against: a Karaoke contestant or Celine Dion? What if I sang for fun? What if I asked someone I trust to give me an honest appraisal of my singing? How is claiming that I can't sing serving me?

Now for the most important piece: Every time I catch myself saying this, what could I say instead? Create a replacement phrase for yourself. We're not talking about lying to yourself, but some replacement that moves you to a better place in your subconscious about this issue. In this example, you might switch to saying, "I enjoy singing for fun!" or "I like to sing in the shower!" Can't you already feel the cobwebs being swept away? Medicare Part D: A Review Of The Options

Are you wondering what Medicare Part D is, and when it was started? The costs of prescription drugs and health care related expenses continue to rise and many people are wondering what to do. Medicare Part D is a supplemental insurance program which provides prescription drug coverage for eligible Medicare participants. It was put into practice in 2006, but was created in 2003 by the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act.

In order for an insurance company to participate in Medicare Part D, the standard benefit and the insurance company's package must be at least equal in value. Prior to 2006, two trillion dollars were spent on health care costs, with an average per capita cost of near thirty percent of income for Americans. Prices of prescription drugs have risen as technology has advanced, and the vast number of Americans reaching retirement age and beyond has increased exponentially because of the baby-boomers. Another contributing factor is the staff required for paperwork has increased due to the availability of so many different insurance companies and plan options. All of these costs come out of the plan-holder's pockets.

Since I am a relatively healthy person, I decided to check up on prices for certain medications to run an average figure of what it would cost me out of pocket with out a prescription plan. Like many of the elderly patients I work with, I decided to look up the cost of insulin. I did not include the needles or the blood glucose monitor. For a vial of insulin, it can run between $25 and $50. This also depends on the amount of insulin you take and how often you are to take it. Let us say that I am a diabetes patient and I have to take about 10ccas of insulin twice a day. A vial of insulin could hold up to 100ccas. That is ten injections in five days. The cost could add up very quickly.

Because of the quickly escalating cost of health care and prescription drugs, prescription drug coverage is becoming more and more of a necessity. People on Medicare, for example, are living primarily off of Social Security. This is not enough to pay the bills for food, shelter, and health care, let alone prescription drugs. Social Security pays between $10,000-$17,000 per year. It is necessary to utilize any way to save money that you can. Being a good steward of your own money is its own reward. It makes good sense to begin looking now and prepare for the future.

Given the current economic situation, many people need to become educated about the choices available to them when entering retirement and going on Medicare. Preparation now will ensure that the future will be a bit more secure. For families and individuals alike, being aware of health care plans for loved ones and friends will lessen the burdens of illnesses and enable what little money that exisst to be there for the future. I expect that most everybody has time management problems at one point or another in their lifetime simply because we fill our lives with too big a To Do list and then frantically scramble trying to cross everything off that list every day.

But what cost to our inner peace and our souls inspiration do these stressful days cause?

I had one of those stressful days recently, and I decided to take just 20 minutes to write in my journal. I knew in my heart it would be good for my soul and time well spent as I truly enjoy the peace I feel from doing this simple activity. I have been trying to plan more time to feed my soul every day by doing activities like writing, reading, and being creative, but as with most changes that we try to make, I find myself challenged many days to meet my goal.

So, on that day when I struggled to find a spare 20 minutes to write in my journal, I was rewarded with inspiration for this article: Inspire and Rejuvenate Your Soul in Just 20 Minutes. I developed a list to remind me of six simple, yet powerful activities to do when I feel challenged to make time for myself, and Id like to share this list with you in the hopes that it will help you find those precious 20 minutes to rejuvenate yourself and inspire your soul.

Here are six activities to inspire and rejuvenate your soul in just 20 minutes

1. Take a short walk. Walking can clear your mind and is good for your body and soul. You can walk while listening to music, an audio book, an inspirational podcast, or just your own thoughts. A walk in a new place can give you perspective beyond what youve seen driving in your car. I notice so many more details when walking, like beautiful landscaping, gorgeous flower beds or details on houses in my neighborhood that Ive never noticed before. Walking is a great way to slow down the pace of life, see the same old place in a new way, or just get in touch with your inner self.

2. Get outdoors . Another activity that is good for both your body and soul is to simply go outside your home or office and breathe in some fresh air. Feel the breeze on your face and soak in some sunshine. Simply enjoy the day and marvel at the beauty of Mother Nature. Or do another inspirational activity while youre outside, such as writing, journaling, stretching, yoga, reading a book or magazine, or meditating. Just enjoying being outside in the fresh air for 20 minutes can really shift your perspective.

3. Practice gratitude. Focusing on gratitude wakes you up to the precious, small pleasures in life, like the flowers that are blooming or someones simple kind gesture. There are several ways to practice gratitude. You can write in a journal a few things that you are grateful for and why, write a thank you card to someone, or plan a fun gift or activity for yourself or a loved one to show your gratitude. You can even practice a random act of kindness to a stranger to foster feelings of gratitude within yourself. 4. Write. Studies have shown that writing just 20 minutes a day for four consecutive days can provide positive health benefits for up to six weeks. In her book, she explains the process that should be followed to experience health benefits which has three components: you should write about 1) a traumatic or challenging event in your life; 2) the feelings you had at that time, and 3) the feelings you have now about that experience. All three components should be included in your writing to get the maximum benefit. Another thing I like to do is to write in different places, such as outside or at a coffeehouse, to see what inspiration comes from being in a new environment.

5. Read. Read inspirational stories, fiction, non-fiction, or anything else that interests you. Rejuvenate your soul, expand your perspective and relax all at the same time by reading. I often carry a book or magazine with me so I have it available if I have some unexpected time or find myself waiting in line for a doctors appointment etc.

6. Be creative. The act of creation reveals your souls innermost desires. Ideas and talents that are uniquely yours will be realized when you create. Whether your passion lies in music, art, writing, redecorating a room in your home, starting a new business, or any other artistic pursuit, you will experience inspiration and can share your unique creations with others if you desire. Or be creative just for yourself by writing personal affirmations to review often for your ongoing inspiration and personal growth.

Canadian Credit Reports - Creditor vs. Consumer

Have you ever wondered how the practice of using credit reports really began in Canada? What kind of situation could have necessitated their development? The history of credit reports didn't start, of course, until long after the establishment of the credit system itself. Here, we'll examine why and how credit reports were created.

The Establishment of Credit The first practice of consumer credit actually began way back in the 18th century. The modern-day credit system, as we know it today, was started by Western Union in 1914. Other large companies, like the General Petroleum Corporation and Ford Motor Company, followed suit.

The onslaught of World War II brought with it a ban on the use of credit. However, as soon as the war ended, business began to boom, and the desire for credit grew with it. More and more people wanted more and more credit. They wanted to make bigger purchases - bigger items. They wanted everything now - and wanted to pay for it later. So the establishment of the credit system was well under way.

Who would keep the records? As the use of consumer credit grew, merchants recognized the need to share information about customers so they could make wise credit decisions. This need grew into the development of the credit bureaus. The first credit bureaus were non-profit cooperatives, owned by the merchants who participated in them. As time went on, their thinking changed - confidentiality and the quality of information they collected would be more advantageous for them if they ran as separate entities, operating on a for-profit basis. As of 1970, there were about 2,250 of these credit- reporting companies scattered about in small cities all across the country.

Up until that time, these companies shared consumer information on a local basis so, unfortunately, it helped them only with regard to local consumers. But the number of records was manageable because the customer base was small and the records were kept manually in paper-based filing systems.

After 1970, large credit-granting companies like General Electric (GE), Sears, and the auto manufacturers began to automate their systems for maintaining customer credit records. This allowed them to set up a limited number of credit decision centers across the country. But that left the credit bureaus behind. They had to add all this new credit information to their records to keep them up-to-date. So they encouraged a move towards consolidation into larger bureaus operating on a regional or national basis.

As the use of credit exploded, the need for automation and centralized credit reporting grew as well. Out of this need emerged three main credit reporting systems: Equifax, Experian and Trans Union. Each of these organizations now has many smaller, affiliated credit bureaus. By 1998, there were 591 member credit bureaus in the U.S., selling 600 million credit reports annually.

The need for Canadian credit reports becomes crucial You might think that the banks were in on all this but, actually, they didn't join the credit bureau system until the late 1970s. That's because banking laws prohibited interstate banking, so they couldn't tie into the expanding credit bureau system until the laws were changed.

But once the banks joined the system, the stakes were raised. The potential effect of large loan losses on a company's balance sheet, and on the banking system in general, had become a great concern as consumers accepted more and more debt. So the use of credit reports to help the creditor make prudent lending decisions became absolutely necessary.

Legislation keeps the credit bureaus honest As credit bureaus began to organize themselves, government recognized the need for laws to oversee this new industry. We'll use the United States as a model, but most countries have similar laws. Back in 1970, the U.S. passed the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). This law allowed consumers to access information about them that lenders, insurers, and others obtain from credit bureaus. Amendments passed in 1996 provided new consumer rights to improve accuracy of reports.

Then, in 2003, Congress passed some changes to the FCRA that provided some improvements for consumers. For example, they increased the accuracy of credit reports, and they prevented identity theft. They also restricted the marketing of financial products that used sensitive information that was shared with affiliates. In addition the FCRA amendments provided for one free credit report per year from each agency and guaranteed consumers access to credit scores at a reasonable fee.

The Creditor/Consumer relationship seesaws Originally, Canadian credit reporting services were created for the benefit of creditors. In the beginning, the consumer just went along with the system. However, as time went on, the consumer, backed by the government, forced the issue and gained some encouraging ground. Errors on credit reports could drastically affect someone's life, in that they could be refused employment, refused tenancy, refused credit, and generally be given a bad name in the credit industry. So the consumer fought for access to their credit information.

Now, as the system stands, the scales are much more balanced. Consumers have more rights: to see their credit report information, to object to errors in them, and a number of other positive outcomes. And for the credit bureaus, more information could be collected, and they could sell that information to marketers for extra profits.

So it seems that both sides are content with the system. But each side, the consumer and the credit bureau, is constantly jockeying for a better position. So the relationship continues, back and forth. But the bottom line for consumers is, as mentioned, credit reports can deeply affect their lives. That's why it's so important to check your credit report regularly - and have peace of mind. - 20763
